Centrifugal Clutch

Clutch that engages automatically based on rotational speed using centrifugal force. Commonly used in go-karts, mopeds, and small utility vehicles.

Clutch that engages automatically based on rotational speed using centrifugal force. As engine RPM increases, weighted shoes press outward against the drum, gradually engaging the clutch. Commonly used in go-karts, mopeds, and small utility vehicles.

Inherited Methods

This device inherits all methods and properties from the Powertrain Base Device.

Public API

VariableTypeDescription
outputPortstableMap of active output ports.
deviceCategoriestableCategories identifying this as clutchlike and clutch.
inputAVnumberRotational velocity at the input (rad/s).
inputTorquenumberTorque at the input (Nm).
outputAV1numberRotational velocity at the primary output (rad/s).
outputTorque1numberTorque at the primary output (Nm).
isBrokenbooleanTrue if the clutch has failed.
clutchTemperaturenumberCurrent temperature of the clutch plates (°C).
clutchRationumberEngagement level (0 = disengaged, 1 = fully engaged).
FunctionSignatureDescription
new(jbeamData) → deviceCreates a new centrifugal clutch instance from JBeam configuration.
velocityUpdate(device, dt)Physics step: calculates input shaft speed based on output and slip.
torqueUpdate(device, dt)Physics step: calculates torque transmission based on RPM and spring/weight config.

Usage Example

-- Access the centrifugal clutch
local clutch = powertrain.getDevice("clutch")

-- Check engagement
local engagement = clutch.clutchRatio -- 0.0 to 1.0
local temp = clutch.clutchTemperature

Automatic Gearbox

Torque-converter based automatic transmission with planetary gear sets. Simulates gear selection logic, shift scheduling, and torque multiplication for traditional automatic transmissions.

Combustion Engine

Internal combustion engine device with torque curves, starter motor, ignition control, and rev limiters. The primary power source for most vehicles in BeamNG.
